Rearview Mirror + Self-Evolution

I received this quote my Marshall McLuhan in my Farnam Street newsletter today:  

"We drive into the future using only our rear view mirror."

 Am I the only one guilty of this?  While I do believe that your past experiences can help to inform your future experiences, this doesn't mean we need to ONLY use our past to lead us into the future.  After all, when I think about my 15-year-old self, or 23-year-old self, or 31-year-old self...they were more-or-less their own beings.  Evolved beings.  But evolution uses a culmination of the past AND the expectations of thriving in the now and near future.  And evolution wouldn't take place unless we were meant to change, shift, and be different than our former beings to stay alive, to stay well, and to stay above what once was.  

So today, I encourage you to look to your present and future for the signals and information you need to lead you forward.
